Outside of my dorm, I spend majority of my time at the Schottenstein Center. The Schott is top five one of the biggest gymnasiums in college basketball, seating more than 20,000 in attendance. As large as this gym is, the seating arrangement's are still tight and compact to make the gym as loud as possible for when big plays occur. Scarlet and Gray seats surround the arena, gray for those who sit in the student section and other areas of the lower deck. Scarlet seats surround the whole upper deck seating. Right where the upper and lower decks separate are the suites. The suites run all the way around the middle deck. On the court we play, thick red paints surrounds the edge of the court separating the in bounds to the out out of bounds. Center court is divided by the Ohio State's block "O", with Ohio State going through the "O". Two basketball hoops stand 94ft away from each other. On top of red paint where the two basketball hoops is the word "BUCKEYES" sitting right in front hoops in white painting. Fans enjoy the atmosphere at our games because they're always uptempo and upbeat. The thrill and the passion for the game that we display on the court is one of kind.

The only perspective I've ever seen the Schott from is from up in the nosebleeds. I'm guessing it looks and feels completely different when you're on the floor. When you're playing in a game do you notice all the people present, or do just kind of tune them out and forget they're there?
ReplyDeleteI have grown up going to all kinds of sporting events at the Schott so it was really interesting to hear your views from the court. I never really noticed the different colors of the seats. I have sat in a lot of different spots in the arena from court side, boxes and the upper deck. It's really strange to consider that the same space that you play your basketball games in, the next day can turn into a hockey rink or concert venue. Have you even gone to an other events in the Schottenstein Center. If so how did you feel sitting in the stands instead of being on the court?
ReplyDeleteSeth- I really pay attention at the very beginning of the game when the crowd first starts to get into it, but then as I begin to play I start to zone out and don't pay much attention to the crowd.
ReplyDeleteJustin- I have been to a few girls basketball games. I feel like regular student just being able to have fun and interact with the people in the student section and not worry about playing.
Amir its so interesting to hear your perspective of the Schottenstein Center. I cant imagine what it would be like playing on the court in a big time basketball game. As a fan, I came to all the games this season and sat court side, it was intense at times and I know the students got into the games. It must be amazing to be on the court during all the excitement.
ReplyDeleteI can see how playing in the Schott is an amazing feeling. I would imagine it is intense when you are playing on the court with everything going on around you. Was it hard to adjust to playing in the Schott compared to your high school court?
ReplyDeleteI have grown up in Columbus my whole life and I have been to the Schott a number of times all for basketball games. Its such a great atomosphere and it is really cool to here a perspective from down on the court where all the magic happens. I remember back in 8th grade I went to an OSU basketball camp and they let our team play the championship game on the main floor in the Schott. I was a pretty cool experience. I can't imagine actually playing out there in front of thousands of people for something that actually matters. How do you keep calm out there admist all the chaos and everybody watching you play?
ReplyDeleteGotcha, that's pretty cool. I'm sure it would take some adjusting for me to be comfortable playing in a huge area like the Schott after playing in a small gyms throughout high school.
ReplyDeleteAmir Im a big fan! Me and my friends had season tickets and were at all of the games. Im from Boston, and when your team was there for the final four somebody on the street saw me in a Buckeye shirt and asked if I have ever been inside the Schott. Shows that you have fans all over the country!
